"Don't forget where you came from." Sometimes, this phrase is a snide remark, other times, it is a sage piece of advice. The point is that it is meant to help one stay on the foundation that has been laid for them.
It can b
e a true challenge to remember where you came from. The world is riddled with distractions. Some can become tied up in their profession, education, and status, to name a few. Could you imagine how immense this tug must have been to be raised by the most powerful man in the whole world? Such was the case for Moses.
Moses was raised as the adoptive son of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, the then superpower of the world. Moses was guaranteed earthly success! He was assured the best education money could buy, the most comfortable living situation that could have been accommodated in his time, and the most respect from man anyone could attain. All these were his, yet he chose something different.
Moses forsook the fleeting pleasures that a royal Egyptian life could give him to identify with God's mistreated people (Heb 11:24-25). He chose as his fleshly parents, who resisted the sinful edict of Pharaoh, to serve God. We are told that he considered the reproach of Christ to be greater than the treasures of Egypt and that he was seeking a reward (Heb 11:26). Isn’t it remarkable that in all the grumblings of missing Egypt that none came from Moses (Ex 16:2-15)? Was it not because his emphasis was placed on heaven rather than earth?

Moses came from the offspring of godly seed. We may have been raised in the church or not—if you were, rejoice in the blessing you received—but we are all offspring of godly seed. Jesus Christ is our Lord, and we must make decisions, however costly, that correspond with following Him so that we may gain the reward. There is a treasure that surpasses all that this world affords. Are you seeking such?
