Looking To Eternity: What Heaven Notices — Faithfulness

Updated: May 19

The world is enamored by fireworks, both literally and metaphorically. Constant attention and applause are given to pomp, big moments, and large victories. Sometimes, we focus on what the world values and let it seep into our religion. Newsflash: Heaven is not impressed with fireworks. If anything, heaven notices constant flames.

When God sought a king, it was not about who won the most hearts or led the fiercest army. God wanted a king after His own heart (1 Sam 13:14). He did not seek one who manipulated or was easily manipulated; He wanted a king who would treasure Him as Master.

When Jesus sought disciples, He did not look for the most brilliant minds or the most disciplined warriors (Jn 18:30). He searched for those with sacrificial hearts (Lk 9:23). Jesus did not want men who dazzled or distracted in His name. He sought men who would faithfully live under His authority (Matt 10:22).

God is not interested in flickering flames, but in constant ones—flames that shine day and night, seen and unseen, always.

God intends to greet His faithful followers with these words: “Well done, good and faithful servant …” (Matt 25:21). To receive such honor should be the mission of each reader. However, reality tells us some may not hear it. Why? It is an honor reserved for those whose efforts were constant.

The world may be pleased, even elated, when you give yourself in part. God will not be. He not only demands your all (Mk 12:30), but deserves it.

How might the God of heaven notice me and find pleasure in me? I shine for Him (Matt 5:16). I maintain good works (Gal 6:9). I am faithful. (Lk 16:10).

Hold fast to your confidence (Heb 3:14). Resolve now to be faithful to the very end (Matt 10:22). Receive the crown (Rev 2:10).

Words With Weight: Covenant
